Sarah Baldwin is the owner and head chef of Joy, her intimate 10-seat restaurant in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley. After working in kitchens including Urbane and Sydney’s Sixpenny, Baldwin co-founded Joy in 2019 before taking the reins herself in 2020. The tiny restaurant gives her space to cook creatively, with an ever-changing menu shaped by seasonality, storytelling and whatever is inspiring her at the time. With Baldwin cooking, serving and often pouring the drinks herself, Joy has become one of Brisbane’s most distinctive dining experiences.

Eat and drink your way along James Street. Think Greek lunch by the pool, sushi in a theatre, wood-fired cooking, late-night cocktails and tacos, a corner bistro slinging espressos and fancy tuna toast, then a Lebanese feast. Our guide to one of Brisbane’s best streets for a very good time.
Ollie Hansford’s South Brisbane is all about reliable local favourites — think a spicy breakfast at West End Coffee House, some of the best croissants in Brisbane at Lune, and Fish Lane bars worth knowing like Saccharomyces. From pizza and spritz at Julius to late-night drinks at Cobbler, these are the spots that consistently hit without trying too hard.
